Cassava Resilience Value Chain Programme in Gokana, Ogoni

The Chisomejé Rural Women Rising Project (CRWRP) has officially commenced the implementation of its Cassava Resilience Value Chain Programme in Gokana, Ogoni, marking a significant step toward strengthening rural women’s economic participation in agrifood systems.

The programme is designed to support women engaged in cassava farming and processing through targeted seed financial assistance, community engagement, and value chain documentation. It will also capture and amplify the critical role rural women play in sustaining local food economies.

Over the coming weeks, CRWRP will work directly with women farmers and processors across Gokana, providing economic support, documenting cassava production activities, and building a community database to inform future interventions focused on mechanised farming and rural livelihoods.

This initiative forms part of CRWRP’s broader commitment to advancing inclusive, sustainable, and women-led agrifood systems while addressing the structural barriers that limit rural women’s economic agency. The Gokana implementation marks the first phase of a wider programme expected to expand to additional communities.

Expected Outcomes

  • Direct financial support delivered to rural women engaged in cassava production and processing
  • Increased visibility and recognition of women’s contributions across the cassava value chain
  • Creation of high-quality visual and narrative documentation for advocacy and policy engagement
  • Establishment of a community database to enable targeted future programming.

Impact

This initiative strengthens the economic agency of rural women while challenging the structural invisibility of their labour. By supporting women producers and documenting their work across the cassava value chain, the project contributes to more inclusive agrifood systems and lays the groundwork for future investments in financial inclusion, mechanisation, and sustainable rural livelihoods.
